Während Willi, der Besitzer des Gartens, ins Altersheim kommt, überwuchert sein Garten und scheint, sich aufzulösen. Die Pflanzen folgen dem natürlichen Lauf – sie wachsen, blühen, verblühen, verwesen und blühen von Neuem wieder auf. Der Prozess des ewigen Kreislaufs von Vergehen und Entstehen. Um diese Situation für sich greifbar zu machen, erntete Ann Carolin Renninger im Laufe eines Jahres Pflanzen aus Willi’s Garten und überfärbte ein und dasselbe Stück Stoff mit den unterschiedlichsten Pflanzenextrakten, Jahreszeit für Jahreszeit. Es ist der Versuch, etwas festzuhalten, was letztlich nicht festzuhalten ist. Die Schichten überlagern sich, die Farbtöne vermischen sich, wie sich auch die Erinnerungen Willis Kopf immer mehr vermischten mit dem Hier und Jetzt seines neuen Refugiums. Alles – so scheint es – wird eins. Mit derZeit und durch den Kontakt mit Sonne, Luft und Wasser, wird die Farbe wieder aus dem Stoff weichen, ganz so wie das Verblassen der menschlichen Erinnerung.
„Links von der Tanne“ ist die Auseinandersetzung mit den Erinnerungen an einen kleinen norddeutschen Garten und ein Nachdenkenüber das Älterwerden und darüber, was passiert, wenn Natur nicht mehr kultiviert wird.
Zu sehen ist das Buch mit Texten, stills von 16mm film (gedreht zwischen 2014-2016 mit der Bolex), 35mm-Fotos (aus 2019), begleitet von hochauflösenden scans der Pflanzen (Brombeerblätter, Hagebutte, Brennessel, Forsythie), die ihre Farbspuren in dem Stoff des Einbands gelassen haben.

A reflection about memories stored in a small garden, in the North of Germany. It belongs to Willi, 92 years old farmer, who recently moved to an house for elderly people. In Willi’s memory the here and now is mingling with the past, everything seams to converge into one. While the garden outside on his old farmland is currently in the state of dissolving, meanwhile the plants do continue the process of growing, flowering and re-appearing, showing the impermanence and the circle of life. Same is the memory in Willi’s mind, repeating the formula, but still trying to cultivate the beast, speaking of his nature, the nature how a farmer perceives it. It seams to me, all that is only meant to construct identity or at least hold together what’s supposed to be ones identity. The cover-fabric is dyed with plants from the garden, layer over layer representation of the seasons. It is autumn now. The text consists of fragments from our conversations from a few years back. The search for a cherry tree in his garden, that once was there—still must be there.
The photos are stills from 16mm film (shot between 2014-2016 with a bolex), the photos are 35mm (shot in 2019), accompanied by high-res scans of the plants (blackberry, rosehip and stinging nettle) that left their color and traces in the fabric of the cover.
